Tips to Avoid Distracted Driving

Between traffic, unpredictable drivers cutting you off, and road work and closures, being a safe, responsible driver is no easy task! That’s why it’s important for you to give yourself the best chance of staying safe on the road and limiting any and all distractions that are in your control so that you can to and from your destinations with ease. Things like texting and driving can be majorly hazardous, increasing your risk of accidents and collisions. So in order to keep yourself and other motorists safe, here are some tips you can follow to limit your chances of distracted driving!

Keep Your Phone Out of Reach

Texting while driving is one the leading causes of auto accidents, but texts aren’t the only source of major distraction from your phone! Emails, social media, and calls can all provide significant and dangerous distractions on the road. So do your part by being a responsible driver and keep your phone out of reach while you’re behind the wheel so you can get where you need to go safely!

Avoid Eating and Drinking Behind The Wheel

If you’re too focused on not making a mess with your sandwich or balancing your morning coffee while behind the wheel, then you’re too distracted from what’s on the road ahead! While eating while driving isn’t quite as dangerous as texting and driving, it can still put you at risk of harm! So save your food for when you’re safely parked at your destination.

If You’re Feeling Tired, Pull Over

Driving while you’re overly exhausted and sleepy can impact your ability to be alert to what’s on the road ahead, making you a less attentive, and less safe, driver. So if you’re tempted to nod off behind the wheel, go ahead and pull over your car and get back on the road after you’ve gotten some rest. A tired driver can be a less careful and more distracted driver, so make sure you’re always awake and alert before you get behind the wheel!
