Stay Calm and Pull Over
When you hear or feel your tire go flat, it’s essential to stay calm and pull over as soon as possible. Ideally, you should pull over onto a clear stretch on the side of the road with little traffic, and a good distance from any cars so that you can get out and inspect the state of your tire safely. If there’s no shoulder or clearance on the road, see if you can pull over to the furthest lane, or in an empty turn lane to get out of the way of traffic.
Change Your Tire If You Can
If you have a spare tire and the right tools available, then it’s time to change out the flat tire. If you don’t have the right tools or are unsure of how to change a tire safely, it might be better to see if you can call for help, or get your car towed to the nearest mechanic to assess the state of your vehicle. Just remember that your spare tire is not the same as a permanent tire, and should only be used in emergency situations and driven lightly, just a few miles to get you safely to an auto shop.
