When it comes to storing things in your car, there’s a delicate balance. You don’t want to take up too much valuable space, but you also want to have certain items on hand just in case something unexpected comes up. They say failing to prepare is preparing to fail, so what is truly important to keep in your car?
Spare tire and/or Portable Inflator
If you find yourself with a flat, you’ll need a spare tire until you can get a replacement. It might also be a good idea to carry a jack and a lug wrench to change to the spare, but these things take up additional space. For this reason, many automakers are now choosing tire repair kits, (also called digital inflators), which can repair a hole as long as it hasn’t extended too far into the tread of the tire. There are many advantages and disadvantages to both a spare tire and repair kit, so it truly is up to you which one is right for you.
Multi-tool Device
There are multiple inexpensive options out there with different features, but whatever you choose will undoubtedly come with long term benefits. For example, we suggest starting by searching for a tool that has a window breaker and seatbelt cutter. In an emergency situation, this compact tool could be life saving. Of course, there are also some that include less serious features like bottle openers, screwdrivers, and scissors. In any case, this tactical device is an easy thing to keep somewhere in your car with easy access.
GPS or Paper Maps
This one is really just in case something happens to your beloved cell phone. We rely heavily on our smartphones, but at the end of the day, they are electronic devices that can break or run out of battery. If this happens, you don’t want to be without guidance especially in a remote area. Most modern-day GPS devices update themselves with real-time information as soon as they are plugged in. If you don’t have this option, you can always go old school and use paper maps as well, just make sure you try to keep them updated. Whether you are headed down the street, or going on a long road trip, you need to know where you’re headed, so this is a great tip to keep yourself prepared.
